My 1st trip to The Amex

It’s taken a little while but I finally got to see a match at the brilliant new Amex Stadium, home to Brighton & Hove Albion.

When approaching the stadium from the train it looks very impressive and our excitement grew.

For 20,000 people trying to get into the ground one way or another it was quick and easy which going on previous experiences was a surprise. Once we got in our soft comfy seats we had a look around and was amazed it really is stunning.

The match we’d come to see was against Leeds Utd and expected a tight match but that seemed to go out the window quickly when Leeds took a 2-0 lead into the 2nd half.

Brighton really where poor and some people around us actually didn’t return for the 2nd half…what a mistake!

Brighton came out with a real fight and the introduction of Vicente kicked them into life. And somehow Brighton went into the dying minutes leading 3-2 but as luck would have it Leeds scored a late late goal for it to finish 3-3.

The atmosphere seemed amazing in the second half and the Leeds fans played their parts and as we were down by the away fans we was having some great banter with them and all in good spirits.

Getting back on the train to Lewes was a nightmare and we were queueing for ages but that’s part an parcel of the day.

All in all a great evening and I can’t wait for our next trip.

To Christen or not?

Its a choice parents go through and one me and my wife have gone through over the last few years.

When our daughters were born it was mentioned a few times mainly by other people rather than ourselves. We both knew what we wanted and it didn’t really need to be spoken about.

Neither of us is religious in any form and we felt it would be hypocritical of us to get either of them Christened. Even when we got married church really didn’t enter our heads and we decided to get married at a local Manor.

Don’t get me wrong I have nothing against religion or being Christened but we think for our children we would like them to have the choice when they are older.

Of around 600,000 babies born in Britain each year, 168,000 are baptised into the Church of England and another 64,000 into the Roman Catholic Church. – Source babyworld.co.uk

I can sort of understand people wanting to do this but for me if you do it because you are forced into it by family members then that is wrong, if however you do it because you believe in it that’s your choice.

I’m sure people will have their views on this and I’d like them to leave a comment for a health debate.

What to do with courgettes?

It seems this year everyone is growing mega courgettes and seem to be struggling with new ideas of what to do with them.

Once you’ve made stuffed courgettes, used them in stir frys and salads what can you do?

Well if need something that is quick and easy and perfect for children try this.

Courgette bake – its very easy and perfect for a quick meal.

Firstly chop up the courgette and pop it in a frying an with a little oil. Fry it off until it starts to soften but try not to burn it. Then pop this into a glass dish and top with a can on chopped tomatoes and a sprinkling of cheese and mix in the glass dish, next add more cheese to the top so it goes crispy. Put it in the oven at 175 for 15-20mins or until the cheese has melted.

We usually have a side of potato wedges…perfect.

Aly’s First Sleepover

My little girl is growing up so fast.

Over the weekend Aky had her first sleepover. Now granted it was only at her Nana’s but still I don’t expect her at the age of 3 to sleep over at a friends.

She was so excited and packed her little suitcase and took her pillow and of she went. She just had enough time to say bye to us and off she went.

By the sounds of it she was a very good girl and loved sleeping in her new bed and didn’t wake up until 6.40am which is a lie in normally for us.

Mia seemed to miss her the most and kept looking for her and asking for her (well in her own special way)

I just hope she’s this good when we stay at Peppa Pig World in a few weeks.

How Christmas’ have changed

Its easy to tell when a child is getting old…for the past few years Aly has never asked for anything and we bought her what we thought she’d like.

This year however its completely different. Aly has made it very clear what she wants for Christmas, she has got hold of a Sylvanian Family catalogue and circled everything she would like. (Thankfully the Argos catalogue is too heavy for her to lift). Now bare in mind she will be 4 by the time Christmas comes along.

I hope she doesn’t expect Santa to bring her everything she has circled. Add that list to her saying ‘I want that for Christmas’ to every toy advert on Nick Jr.

Luckily Mia has no idea who or what Santa is and I might try and keep it that way until shes about 18.

What are the chances?

Can’t believe Mia is almost 1

Can’t believe my little Mia is almost one. In under a months time she will be 1 year old and how the last year has flown!!

So much has happened in that year.

She got rushed to hospital when she was only 6 days old and that was without doubt the scariest thing that has ever happened in mine and I would guess Laura’s life.

Aly has had her 1st eye operation in that time. She’s getting better but she will need another operation.

I’ve changed jobs twice and passed my driving test.

Laura has found something she enjoys (no not work) making jewellery.

As Mia grows up you remember all the brilliant things that you’d forgotten they do. Like trying to stand up on their own and eating on their own. The difference this time around is before Aly had to learn everything from us but this time you can see Mia watching Aly and trying to copy her like jumping up and down on the bed etc.

The last 12 months have been great but the next 12 months where she learns to walk and talk will be better. I might not be saying that when they are both talking away at 6am.

Our Day at Knockhatch Adventure Park

For Bank Holiday Monday we decided to take the children to Knockhatch Adventure Park which is near Eastbourne in East Sussex.

Mia as you would expect wasn’t too interested but she kept having a peek at the animals. Aly on the other hand was loving feeding the animals.

And she was also quite happy to stroke the ponies which for her is a major thing.

The park itself was busy as we expected as it was a lovely day but once inside it was well spread out so you never felt cramped or anything.

After we’d fed the animals Aly seemed to find the jumping pillows like a homing pigeon. These jumping pillows are the largest in East Sussex and Aly was bouncing her heart out.

We also sat Mia on them while Aly jumped and Mia loved it and was laughing her head off.

After tempting Aly off with some food we had a little picnic, and of course this was Mia’s favourite part.

We had managed to keep Aly away from the indoor play area but she sniffed out the outdoor play area and somehow I was roped in to going down the avalanche slide which no one told me I could get wet and I did!

As we was feeling daring and doing some extreme sports we went in a rowing boat which Aly wasn’t keen on but once out there she loved being the Captain while Mummy and Daddy had to row.

Finally the time had come and we had to head off to the indoor adventure park and once again it was down to me to throw myself down slides and squeeze through gaps only big enough for a 6 year old at max. This is without doubt Aly’s domain and she spend ages diving down slides that even older children seemed scared of.

Finally after what seemed like hours we tempted her off with an ice cream and after wearing them both out, especially Mia.

It was time to head home.

We all had such a brilliant time, it wasn’t too expensive.

For a family of 4 it costs £31.50 which isn’t too bad for the fun they had. I’m not sure how much the food is as we took a picnic.

I would recommend it without doubt.
