Meal Planning Monday 30th April

I hope everyone has had a good weekend and actually managed to stay dry.

This weeks meals are pretty much same old same old.

Chilli salmon and new potatoes

Jacket potatoes with king prawns

Tuna and anchovies Pizza

Jamaican gerk chicken and rice

Chilli con carne served with garlic bread

Scampi and Chips

We have a few meals in there that we haven’t had for a while but this menu was done in a bit of a rush on Sunday just before we headed off to the supermarket.

I really need to come up with some new meals but I often struggle and sometimes after a long day at work I don’t always feel like cooking.

If you have any quick and easy ideas for meals please leave a comment.

As always make sure you pop over and have a look at the other brilliant Meal Planning Monday Menus at Mrs M

City of Friends app – Review

A brand new app has been launched which teaches kids about emergency services. The app is based on City of Friends, the children’s TV show that has turned into a global phenomenon and currently airing in over 150 countries.

The new app available for the iPhone, iPad, iPod on iTunes and Android allow fans to interact with the show’s emergency service recruits, Max the police officer, Elphie the fire officer and Ted the paramedic, to solve problems and help people around their city. In its native Norway, the new City of Friends app is the number one app for children.

The City of Friends app retails at £2.50 from the App Store.

When I first told Aly that we had a need game to try out on the iPad she got really excited which was a good start. We downloaded the app and straight away she recognized the characters from the TV. The first thing was the catchy theme music that has now meant I’ve been singing it for the past 12 hours.

You are then greeted with the above screen which shows various different games you can play. The first is a memory game which Aly loves anyway, to cater for different ages you have a choice of how difficult the game is.

The second game is help Ted the Teddy-bear sort out his first-aid kit, again you have two different difficult levels and Aly loved this game and knew all the objects from her own dress up box, and she also made up a little story to go with this game.

The final game on the top row is Fly Hayley the police helicopter with Max the Monkey to collect various items, Aly wasn’t so keen on this challenge, not sure why .

You can also fight fires with Elphie the Elephant where you have to point his trunk filled with water at various fires and again you have different fires to keep them entertained.

There is also a video clip section and a bit on different emergency vehicles. Aly loved pretty much the whole app and picked it up very quickly. Its a fun app and educational too which makes a change from some of the things she plays on the iPad.

City of Friends airs weekdays on Channel 5’s Milkshake at 6.20am, Saturdays at 6.15am and Sundays at 6.25am or visit www.cityoffriends.com and the Facebook page http://www.facebook.com/CityofFriendstv to find out more information. Or watch your favourite episodes whenever you want at http://milkshake.channel5.com/all-day-milkshake-programmes/city-of-friends/episodes.

First choice

I’m sure many many parents around the country have been feeling exactly the same as us. We have been waiting what seems like ages to receive an email telling us whether or not Aly has been accepted into her first choice primary school.

Friday was the dreaded day and then it happened….Aly has been accepted!

As a lot of parents we felt relieved to finally get the good news. It also seems most of her friends have been accepted into their first choice schools as well so good news all round.

I feel for the parents of children who didn’t get their first choice.

Now all the have to do is complete the forms, get the uniforms, meet the teachers, visit the school and the worst part prepare ourselves for that first day and leaving them at this new environment!

Dear Premier League Footballers

This is a little letter to Premier League footballers, please take note.

Dear Various Premier League Footballers,

Let me start by saying I am a big football fan and have been to may matches over the years, not so much lately due to the stupid prices to sit on a plastic seat outdoors to see you running (sometimes) and falling over (often).

it seems the press has made you in to some sort of role model…are you fecking kidding me. If either of my girls told me they was dating a footballer I’d go ape shit. Somehow you seem to think that you are above the law, that just because you are paid £100,000 a week plus that people owe you something.

I’m sure not all footballers are like this but it seems most are. Caught speeding…well I’ll call my lawyer and get off with a little slap. Shot a bloody team mate…haha we’ll all laugh about that at the pub. Shit let’s even treat women like crap. You all act like big men and then someone tickles you and you roll around on the floor like a sniper has got you.

Role models ha, what about doctors or nurses or the army personnel fighting to protect this country, the single mums and dads raising their children with no money – these are the real role models who deserve the credit and praise.

I know no footballer will read this but if one happens to please have the balls to respond.

Many thanks

Bloody 4 Year olds

After escaping untroubled from the terrible twos we have hit a sticky patch that will be now known as fecking fours.

It seems this last week or so Aly has turned in to a devil child.

It seems all we do at the moment is tell her off for snatching toys from Mia or for general bad behaviour. After a day with her Nana in which she refused to eat her dinner we went home and took some of her toys away until she could be a good girl…we’ll see where this leads.

I also like @LindseysBack suggestion

I love it when my child has a tantrum, I sit and take pictures and laugh!

Now this really could be fun

Lego Friends Review

Unless you’ve been living under a rock or you have a family of boys, you’ll know about Lego Friends.

Aly who’s almost 5 is into Lego Friends in a big way. It first started when she downloaded an app on the iPad where by you have to dress various people to look like one of the Lego girls and then came the adverts and finally she bought some items with her own money.

She loves it and I can understand why, unlike all the other Lego piece this range is designed just for girls. Lego have totally tapped into the right market and its really good.

In the range you have about 12 different pieces and there is 5 different ‘Friends’ – Mia, Stephanie, Emma, Andrea and Olivia.

The range starts from around £5 and goes up to the larger pieces which are around the £40 mark. The guide age range is 5-12 as like with all Lego you have some small pieces and with younger children they will need some help with butting it all together.

If you have any daughters who are hoping for a piece of this for a birthday or even Christmas I would strongly suggest buying it now and putting it aside as it will sell out very quickly and it’ll be this Christmas’ must have toy for the girls.
