My Olympic Sport

As the Olympics I’ve had a little think and I’ve come to the conclusion that I could have been in the Olympics.

I’m no swimmer or 100m runner and too be honest I can’t really throw a javelin and I’m not built for weightlifting or shot-put.

However long distance runner such as 1500m I think I’d win gold for TeamGB. Granted I haven’t run that distance since school but I was pretty handy over that distance. If they could also bring in Cross Country I’d have an even better chance. I can’t imagine people outside of Great Britain fancying their chances through a dodgy wood and around muddy fields.

Thinking about it the next Olympics are being held in Brazil and I’m not sure I fancy running through the Amazon Rainforest.

But as there is no Cross Country running at London 2012 I will award myself the gold medal.

Be Positive

It’s here the day many have been waiting for…the start of the Olympic games.

But as this is Great Britain it’s surrounded by negativity mainly coming from the media and BBC. This is a once in a lifetime event and we should be proud that they awarded it to us.

I think this is amazing for us and we should embrace this and celebrate all that is Great with Britain.

It allows us to show the World what we are capable of and also gives us a few weeks to forget that David Cameron is our Prime Minister.

Be positive and let’s enjoy the Olympics

Hungarian Grand Prix – Preview #F1

20120725-220712.jpg

This weekend it’s time for the Hungarian Grand Prix held in Budapest.

This will be the last race before the summer shutdown and the last chance for Sebastian Vettel to break his July duck. The two time Champion has never won a race in the month of July.

This weekend we should get to see how good the upgrades on the McLaren are and I’d expect to see the two of them closer to the front after qualifying.

Mr in form Fernando Alonso will be hoping for three race wins on the spin and of course RedBull Racing are normally pretty quick around here.

I personally can’t see the race winner coming from outside the big three teams but I don’t think Fernando will be on the top step but it’ll be another close race. If Vettel gets pole I can see him getting the win he so desperately wants.

My Predictions
1. Sebastian Vettel
2. Lewis Hamilon
3. Mark Weber

German Grand Prix – Review F1

Has there been a dull race this season?

Germany once again entertained us right up to the chequered flag and beyond.

After a pretty damp Friday and Saturday, Sunday turned out to be a glorious day and it gave the fans something to cheer.

It was the impressive Alonso that started in pole position with Vettel in 2nd and Schumacher in 3rd after Webber was given a 5 place grid penalty for a change of gearbox. It wasn’t a happy race 100 for Lewis Hamilton who started in 7th as he picked up a puncture after running over debris from Felipe Massa’s front wing which left him at the back and totally fed up.

Alonso had kept the lead at the front and was keeping Vettel at bay. Even when Hamilton was being lapped he still found a way of being involved in the action. After a series of pit stops he found himself in-between Button and Vettel and with a fresh set of tyres and being the fastest man on the track he decided to try and unlap himself and overtook Vettel which he didn’t take to kindly to and flapped his arms around.

That was the highlight of a miserable weekend for Hamilton as he later retired in the garage. After a final round of pit stops Button undercut the front who and with the McLaren pit crew putting in the fastest pit stop ever in F1 at 2.3seconds. This pushed Button into 2nd place behind Fernando but he could never get close enough.

Then on the final lap Vettel looked to have taken Button but on leaving the corner Button was ahead and Vettel took to the run off to gain an advantage and raced clear to get 2nd place only for the stewards after the race to give him a 20second penalty which pushed him down to 5th.

Plush Wenlock Olympic Mascot Soft Toy Review

Unless you happen to live in a cave you will know that this summer sees the Olympics being hosted in London, and you’ll also have heard of the Iconic mascots Wenlock and Mandeville.

The name Wenlock is inspired by Much Wenlock, a small town in Shropshire that is at the heart of Olympic history. Baron Pierre de Coubertin was invited to watch the Much Wenlock Games, which were inspired by the Olympic Games of ancient Greece.

As you would expect from Official Olympic products this is very well made and is part of Golden Bear’s Olympic mascot product range.

It’s a lovely soft plush material that looks like it can take a lot of loving from the girls. When it came through the post Aly wanted to know everything about the Olympics and fingers crossed will now let me watch some instead of Peppa Pig.

I have to be honest and say I’m tempted to keep this soft toy away from the children and keep it for future generations as I’m pretty sure the Olympics won’t be coming back to these shores in my lifetime.

The Wenlock 30cm Plush Olympic Mascot has an RRP of £19.99 and more Olympic Mascot products are available from Golden Bear

I was sent this item for the purpose of this review, my opinion is honest and unbiased.

F1 British GP – Review

20120708-224342.jpg

After Friday and Saturday who would have put money on it being a dry race? Not me that’s for sure.

After the mess that was Saturday with the crowd problems the 125,000 crowd was treating to a good day of racing. But once again there was no British winner. All three British drivers would like to forget this weekend especially Paul Di Resta who didn’t complete a lap after having contact after a few corners and managing to limp back to the pits where he retired.

The start was fairly uneventful with Alonso and Webber blasting out in front and Michael Schumacher who started third holding up the rest of the pack. For the most part it was a fairly uneventful until once again Maldonado wiped someone out this time it was Perez who was not a happen bunny.

At this stage Alonso was leading ahead of Webber followed by Vettel who was having a fairly quiet race at this stage and the Lotus’ looking quick and Hamilton having to fight for every position and Button outside of the top 10.

With 14 laps remaining the last of the pit stops for the leaders complete it was a shoot out between Alonso and Webber on different tyres. At this point Kobayashi tried to wipe out his pit crew by coming in too hot, luckily everyone was ok.

All the time Webber is catching Alonso and Button is fighting with Senna for the last Championship point. And with 6 laps to go Webber is within the DRS zone and somehow Alonso is hanging on but it’s only a matter of time. While this is going on Schumacher takes 7th away from Hamilton and finally Webber takes him at Brooklands and fends off a spirited fight back.

On the last lap, Hulkenberg who was in 9th loses that to Senna and then gets out of shape looks 10th to Button and 11th to Kobayashi while Mark Webber takes the chequered flag for the win and Alonso 2nd and Vettel 3rd while Hamilton is 8th and Button 10th to complete a horrible weekend for McLaren who now drop down to 4th in the Constructor’s Standings.

Drivers’ Championship
1. Fernando Alonso 129pts
2. Mark Webber 116pts
3. Sebastian Vettel 100pts

Constructors’ Championship
1. Red Bull Racing. 216pts
2. Ferrari. 152pts
3. Lotus-Renault 144pts

The next race will be held at Hockenheim for the German Grand Prix between 20th – 22nd July.

#F1 British Grand Prix – Preview

The time has come for the 9th race of the 2012 Formula 1 season and its time for the British Grand Prix.

One of the fastest tracks on the calendar and one that normally deliveries and interesting race.

There has only been one British winner in the last 10 years and that was Lewis Hamilton back in 2008 and Jenson Button has never even finished on the podium in 12 attempts so the omens aren’t brilliant for this one.

The man in form at the moment is Fernando Alonso and having already won here twice in his career I fancy him to grab a hat trick. Vettel and Hamilton will be hoping to make up for things after the European Grand Prix and Michael Schumacher will be hoping to keep things on the up with another positive result.

Unfortunately for British racing driver fans I don’t think we’ll see a Brit on the podium on this one.

My Predictions

  1. Fernando Alonso
  2. Sebastian Vettel
  3. Mark Webber

European Grand Prix – Review

Well it had to end sometime and boy did it!

This was the first time this season that we had a two time winner. After the previous seven races with seven different winners this was the weekend that it changed.

After a brilliant qualifying lap from Sebastian Vettel to grab pole position away from Lewis Hamilton it seemed that he would win this race for a third time in a row.

What started out as a pretty normal race with Vettel racing towards an easy win and leading by 20 seconds and only racing against himself it all changed in dramatic circumstances.

On lap 27 Jean-Eric Verne collided into Heikki Kovalainen which brought out the safety car and bunched all the cars back up and it would stay that way until lap 34 when the safety car went back in. At this point Fernando Alonso was somehow in third after starting 11th. When the safety car went in Vettel again kept the lead but that was short lived as moments later he was pulled up on the side of the road with a mechanical failure.

This gave Frenchman Romain Grosjean the lead but he also failed to finish as he too had a failure giving the lead to an unlikely Alonso followed by Hamilton and a fighting Pastor Maldonado who was hunting Lewis down and looked like he was going to overtake him when a mistake wiped Hamilton out and resulted in Pastor picking up a time penalty after the race.

Two drivers cutting through the field on fresh tyres was Michael Schumacher and Red Bull’s Mark Webber who started a lowly 19th place. Schumacher seemed to be turning back the clock a produced a brilliant drive to finish on the podium and pick up 15 well deserved points.

Kimi Raikkonen picked up a great 2nd place from starting in 5th but the drive of the day was Fernando Alonso who was disappointed after failing to get into Q3 on Saturday but ended the weekend with tears in his eyes after winning in front of his home crowd.

Drivers’ Championship

  1. Fernando Alonso          111pts
  2. Mark Webber                91pts
  3. Lewis Hamilton            88pts

Constructors’ Championship

  1. Red Bull Racing             176pts
  2. McLaren Mercedes       137pts
  3. Lotus – Renault              126pts

The next race weekend will be 6th – 8th July when we head to Silverstone for the British Grand Prix
